A house divided

A house divided against itself cannot stand. We are double-minded. There is an internal battle for the soul of America. Some of the ballot initiatives that passed last night in America and some of the other things Democrats have proposed that a lot of Americans looked the other way on by voting for Democrats because the President’s tweets do not give them warm fuzzies like a Mister Rogers monologue do not make one optimistic about our long-term future. There is still good reason to have optimism; however, about our short-term future politically.

Nevertheless, politics is downstream from culture. So there is much work to do. Prayer is a necessity right now, but so is action. We must actively share the gospel with people every chance we get. We must also make it a serious point to disciple professing believers who are either weak in a biblical worldview or do not fully understand what it is. Time is out for timidity or quoting Saint Francis of Assisi to mask our cowardice or apprehension so it will seem holy. Preach the gospel, AND IT IS NECESSARY to use words. Yes, actions must accompany it. Otherwise, we have a dead faith that will not save anyone, maybe even ourselves. However, there is no substitute for telling people. How, then, can they call on the one in whom they have not believed? Moreover, how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? Furthermore, how can they hear without someone preaching to them (Romans 10:14)?

We must also engage politically, not just by voting, even though that is the most important thing any of us can do politically. We have to start engaging people in political conversations. We must seek out those conversations and become evangelists of pro-American constitutional righteousness second only to the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is this belief that two things that should never be involved in a discussion are politics and religion. Well, far too many people took that nonsense seriously, and the resulting ignorance has caused significant damage. No matter the outcome of the election, the time we are entering no longer affords the luxury of avoiding uncomfortable conversations that might cost us friendships or family relationships at a minimum. What we saw last night was not the beginning, but a continuation of the battle for the soul of America. If the body of Christ that genuinely cares about a biblical worldview, and sadly that is very, very few of professing Christians, do not start going on the offense, then we will be accomplices in bringing about the very things that many of us have been warning about for so long. “We should pray as everything depends on God, and work like everything depends on us” may not be the most theologically accurate. However, we need to understand that the primary way God gets his will done on Earth is through the temples in which he lives. Under the New Covenant, that is every true convert to Jesus Christ. It is time we all start living like it.
